The one thing I always struggle with is grain orientation when building a said thing sometimes taking hours looking at my material from different angles trying to envision the final piece. I feel like this is something that some how gets missed a lot especially in the world of social media where quality is measured in view counts instead of craftmanship way to often. A great example of what I'm talking about is this box I made what really makes it work is the flow of the grain, now if I built the same box with different grains on the ends from the sides it would create a piece that would be less than pleasing on the eyes and honestly a bit confusing to look at as well and this is just a little box so imagine the impact this has on a much larger piece where this can be seen from across the room it is what makes something amazing or just another thing someone built. Grain matters and what ever I'm building I will always take the time to put thought into how the final project will look in reference to both grain and material in what ever project I'm building.
